The Potion of Invisibility in Minecraft can make a player model disappear but is not without weaknesses. Mobs will still detect and attack the player model at a very close range, and this range will increase if the player is wearing armor. The potion can only affect the player model, so weapons and items that the player is holding will not be rendered invisible.

Like all other potions in Minecraft, the Potion of Invisibility is made in the Brewing Stand. Brewing Stands can be made using three Cobblestone and one Blaze Rod at a Crafting Table. Cobblestone is a common resource that players will have a plentiful supply of, but the Blaze Rod will only drop from Blazes in the Nether. When all the resources have been gathered, the Brewing Stand can be made at a Crafting Table by placing three Cobblestone along the bottom row and the Blaze Rod in the very center. It is also possible to find a Brewing Stand in Igloos and Village Churches.

Updated November 19th, 2021 by Russ Boswell: Potions are a great way to increase a player’s chances of survival in Minecraft but some potions are much more useful than others. The Potion of Invisibility can help players navigate hostile areas and free them from the prying eyes of dangerous mobs. To better help players answer questions like “how to make invisibility potion in Minecraft” and provide more generalized information on the Potion of Invisibility and what it does, the following list has been updated.

First Things First

To make the Potion of Invisibility, players will first need another potion, a Potion of Nightvision. To create a Potion of Nightvision, players will need one Nether Wart, one Golden Carrot, and one Water Bottle. Nether Wart can only be found at Nether Fortresses or Bastion Remnants. Glass Bottles can be crafted by placing two Glass blocks at the left and right of the Crafting Table grid’s top row and one in the very center. This will result in three Glass Bottles. The Glass Bottles can be filled with water by using them on any water source.

Golden Carrots can be found in Bastion Remnants or Ruined Portals or can be made by placing a Carrot at the center of a Crafting Table and surrounding it with Gold Nuggets on all sides. It takes eight Gold Nuggets for each Golden Carrot. All these ingredients can be combined in the Brewing Stand to produce a Potion of Nightvision.

Place some Blaze Power in the far left box to activate the Brewing Stand. Players can make Blaze Power by placing a Blaze Rod in the Crafting Table. Place the Water Bottle in one of the bottom boxes and the Nether Wart in the Brewing Stand’s top box. After a short delay, this will produce an Awkward Potion, which has no effect. Finally, place the Golden Carrot in the top box to create the Potion of Nightvision.

Making The Invisibility Potion

To make the Potion of Invisibility, players can combine a Fermented Spider Eye with the Potion of Nightvision in the Brewing Stand. To make a Fermented Spider Eye, players need a Spider Eye, which will drop from Spiders, a Mushroom, and Sugar. Players should place the Mushroom in the first box of the first row of a Crafting Table and the Sugar in the second box. The Spider Eye should be placed in the center box, directly below the Sugar.

Place the Potion of Nightvision in any of the bottom three boxes in the Brewing Stand and the Fermented Spider Eye in the top box. After a brief delay, this will produce a Potion of Invisibility. The Potion of Invisibility will have a duration of three minutes, and it is possible to make an improved version with a duration of eight minutes. To do this, players need to place the Potion of Invisibility in the Brewing Stand’s bottom row and some Redstone Dust in the box at the top. Redstone Dust can be obtained by mining Redstone Ore and placing it on a Crafting Table.

It is also possible to get a Potion of Invisibility from wandering traders, but they will only drop it if they die while drinking it. The chances of this are quite slim, so players are better off making their own supply.

More Information About Potion Of Invisibility In Minecraft

Although invisibility makes players less likely to be seen by mobs and other players it is still important to note that the effect will not work on certain items. Here’s a look at some things that remain visible even if the player uses a Potion of Invisibility:

Any held items. Any armor, including horse armors. Any arrows currently stuck within the player’s character model (this only applies to Java Edition). The head of a shulker. A saddle on a tamed animal. A llama’s carpet decoration. Any mobs or players that are on fire or emitting any type of particle effect. Some eyes from mobs like Endermen, Creepers, Spiders, and Phantoms will remain visible even if the mob itself is invisible.

Here is some more general information regarding Potion of Invisibility and the Invisibility effect:

Traditional Potion of Invisibility have a duration of five minutes, while extended carry a duration of 10 minutes. Although players will become invisible, they are still detectable by mobs. Detection rates go up depending on how much armor a player is wearing, less armor means players are less detectable. Spectators can still see invisible players and mobs, which show up as “translucent” in this mode. Invisibility buffs can stack with other anti-detection methods, such as sneaking or wearing monster heads. Cats will always behave as if they can still see the player, even if they are invisible. A mob that detects a player will move towards them and attack as if they can still see them. A player that is invisible will not receive the Dolphin’s Grace buff when swimming near dolphins.
