Anyone relatively new to Minecraft might struggle trying to figure out every recipe and the purpose of every single item, and magma cream is one of those mysterious items when found for the first time. In truth, magma cream is an important crafting item and ingredient that’s worth keeping when found.

How To Get Magma Cream

Magma can be found in Nether dimension in Minecraft. Therefore, players should first build a Nether portal to access this dimension. It’s also recommended to have at least iron armor and tools before heading into the Nether, which is a fairly dangerous area in Minecraft.

Magma cream can be easily and quite commonly found in the following places in the Nether dimension:

Slaying Magma cubes: Killing these block-shaped enemies that spawn most commonly in the Basalt Delta biome in the Nether will yield magma cream. Bring along a sword with a Looting enchantment to get even more drops. Bastion Remnant chests: When players come across a Bastion Remnant, there’s a high chance of magma cream spawning into both regular and treasure chests inside the structure. Beware of Piglin Brutes that guard these chests.

How To Craft Magma Cream

Magma cream can also be crafted in Minecraft, but it requires two ingredients that can be difficult to find: slimeball and blaze powder. Combine them in any way in the crafting grid to get one piece of magma cream. Here’s where to find both ingredients:

Blaze powder: Exclusive to the Nether, it can be found by killing Blazes that spawn in Nether fortresses. These structures are fairly commonly found in the Nether, and there’s usually one within 200 blocks of the player’s Nether spawn. Slimeball: It can be found by killing Slimes, which spawn in Slime chunks or in swamp biomes (the latter are especially abundant during a full moon). If the player has a panda farm, they can also find slimeballs around baby pandas who occasionally sneeze one out.

How To Use Magma Cream

Once players have some magma cream, they might wonder what to use it for. It has exactly two uses in the game: brewing fire resistance potions and crafting magma blocks. Their best use is definitely the fire resistance potion, which is incredibly useful in the Nether when exploring and mining for Ancient Debris for Netherite, for example.

Recipe: Awkward Potion and magma cream

Start by making an Awkward Potion by combining a water bottle and Nether wart in a brewing stand. Then, add in the magma cream to create the fire resistance potion. Players can also add redstone to increase the duration of the fire resistance potion.

Recipe: Four magma creams in a 2 x 2 pattern

Four magma creams can be used to make a magma block. Place them in the crafting grid in a 2 x 2 pattern. Magma blocks burn the player when walked on. When placed underwater, they create a downward bubble column that sucks mobs and players downward towards it.

Minecraft was released on November 18, 2011, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, and many other platforms.
