And so, Emeralds are the go-to currency in Minecraft. In line with that idea, Emeralds are difficult to find and get, to ensure that this fragile economy doesn’t crumble. There are still ways in which players can “farm” Emeralds, though only one of these methods and places where they can be found is actually consistently farmable. Here’s how to get rich quickly with Emeralds in Minecraft.
Method #3: Loot Buried Treasure Chests
Statistically speaking, Buried Treasure chests will contain the highest number of Emeralds. The exact number varies between 4-8 Emeralds, and the likelihood of a Buried Treasure chest containing any Emeralds is well over 50%, which makes them a near-guaranteed place to loot for them. To find buried treasure, players must dive down to underwater shipwrecks, loot their chests, and find a treasure map that details the location of one of these chests.
There are other locations where Emeralds can be found as loot, but they won’t be as reliable as these treasure chests. Desert temples, village chests, underwater ruins, jungle temples, igloos, and End Cities can also contain Emeralds, but they might be rare to come by.
Method #2: Mining In The Mountains
Emeralds will spawn naturally in mountain biomes, both exposed to the outside and within caves. Players can find them most commonly at elevation Y=236, which is quite high. This is due to the new cave and cliff world generation changes that make mountains much higher.

When mining Emeralds, make sure to have a pickaxe with the Fortune III enchantment on it. What this will do is allow the player to receive more Emeralds from the ore when it’s mined. Players should also use an iron pickaxe at the very least before attempting to mine an Emerald ore, otherwise, they will risk destroying it for good.
Best Method: Trading With Villagers
The best source for Emeralds, for now, is any village and its villagers. This makes sense since these are the central hotspots for trading as well. In order to get Emeralds, players will need to make a bunch of trades with local villagers, but luckily there are quite a few advantageous trades that they can make.
The most common and easiest Emerald trade is with the armorer, toolsmith, and weaponsmith. All three of these villagers will agree to trade 15 Coal for 1 Emerald. Given that Coal is extremely common in Minecraft, this is one of the strongest trades available.
If players end up in a village with all three of these villagers, they can complete this trade 16 times for each of them, totaling at least 48 Emeralds per day. The hidden variable is whether or not these villagers will restock during the day. They can restock up to two times, after which their trades get refreshed and are available again. Make sure to check back regularly with the villagers, and also ensure that they have safe and unobstructed access to their respective job blocks so they can refresh their inventories.
