Axolotl in Minecraft

Minecraft’s newest breedable mob is Axolotl. These cute aquatic friends come in a variety of colors, spawning mostly in water-filled caves and bubble columns. In spite of their charming looks, Axolotl will attack other underwater mobs, destroying drowned and other underwater critters. They have the ability to play dead while fighting in order to heal some during battle. Players can pick up these little lizard-like friends in a bucket and keep them as pets or on leads like many other friendly Minecraft mobs.

What do Minecraft Axolotl Eat?

In order to breed two axolotl, players will have to feed them both. Similar to the Minecraft polar bear mob, these little amphibious creatures can be befriended and bred with fish. However, they won’t eat just any fish; these picky salamanders will only eat tropical fish that are kept in a bucket. Therefore, in order to breed them, players will need to create a bucket from iron ingots.

Players can either gather fish in a bucket for themselves, or they can purchase a fish bucket from traders for 5 Minecraft emeralds. In order to gather fish, players just need to use the interact button on a fish while holding an empty bucket.

How to Breed Axolotl in Minecraft

Once players have their fish-in-a-bucket and two adult axolotl, they will be able to breed them. The adults can breed once every five minutes, making one baby that is usually one of the colors of the two parents. However, baby axolotl have a 1/1200 chance of being an incredibly rare blue color, regardless of the parent’s colors. Babies become adults in 20 minutes, but that time can be cut down by feeding the baby more fish.

The possible colors an axolotl can be are:

Lucy: A pale pink with darker pink fins Wild: A mud-color with darker brown fins Gold: A bright yellow. Cyan: Pale blue with pink highlights. Blue: Pale blue-purple with purple and pink details.

Endangered Creatures in Minecraft

The Axolotl is one of the many endangered creatures that Mojang has brought to Minecraft in order to bring awareness. Also in the list of endangered and critically endangered species in the game include polar bears, Minecraft’s adorable bees, giant pandas, and sea turtles.

Minecraft is available for all major platforms.
