One of the most common things to do is to sink as much time as possible into building a gigantic structure to call home. Expert builders know the ins and outs of creating something beautiful, but it can still be a great challenge to turn that knowledge into something huge, especially when building entirely in the survival mode, where all the resources have to be gathered by hand.
Updated June 27th, 2022 by Russ Boswell: Minecraft continues to be one of the world’s most engaging, entertaining, and beloved indie games ever made. Even a decade after its release, players are still joining servers and creating worlds to flex their creative muscles, showcasing some truly amazing and elaborate builds. Of these builds, few are more impressive than megabases. These towering structures take tons of time to complete and are awe-inspiringly big. To better show off some of the best megabase builds in Minecraft, the following list has been updated and now includes even more entries to inspire and amaze future builders.
11 Mega Pirate Ship
Created by: Ash’s Den
There are some players out there that seem to simply have a natural affinity to build impressively complex designs and shapes seemingly out of thin air. Ash’s Den on YouTube is one such designer, who seemingly effortlessly tossed together a massive pirate ship on a multiplayer survival server. In reality, the build took hours upon hours, forcing the player to spend copious amounts of time farming materials thanks to its immense size and complex design.
After compiling all they needed to make their build a success, Ash’s Den proceeded to use intelligent scaffolding-like building techniques to construct the massive sea-faring vessel from the ground up. The end result is a truly stunning creation that is definitely a centerpiece in the multiplayer server.
10 The Underground Kingdom
Created By: TrixyBlox
Embracing the old adage of “go big or go home,” YouTuber TrixyBlox took the concept of a megabase and cranked the dial up to 11, spending countless hours carving into a massive cave system and building a truly elaborate underground Kingdom. The sheer scale of this build is awe-inspiring, with tons of architectural detailing and one of the coolest “skylights” in all of Minecraft.TrixyBlox’s megabuild proves that players can make anything when they set their mind to it in Minecraft.
The finished result is an underground utopia, complete with spanning bridges, massive towers, and some truly ingenious functionality. This is definitely one of the coolest and most detailed megabases ever built, and just seeing the outright epic-ness of it is enough to make players want to return to the fray and flex their own building muscles.
9 How To Build A Megabase
Created By: Sbeev
There are tons of insanely cool megabase builds floating all over the Internet but very few of them provide insight into the process of actually putting it all together. That’s what makes YouTuber Sbeev such an interesting and entertaining Minecraft veteran. Not only have they crafted some truly spectacular builds, they also feature a video on how to build a megabase and exactly what goes into it from start to finish.
The castle-like structure they used to display their thought process, planning, and staging is truly beautiful, with amazing architecture on the outside and a work-in-progress interior that showcases some pretty awesome ideas. Players that are looking at just what it takes to put a megabase all together should definitely check out this build.
8 Mega Mansion
Created By: SmallishBeans
While the naturally generating Woodland Mansions in the game are very big, they’re not all that interesting to look at, and they’re filled with hostile Illagers. This structure makes for a much more interesting design. On shape alone, it has plenty of ways to draw the eye, with lots of rooms at the top of towers.
The design mixes different types of stone and wood to ensure nothing gets monotonous, and there are plenty of slight variations that give the design texture. What’s extra impressive about this one is that not only was it built all in survival mode but under a time limit of 100 days, which goes to show just how much players can achieve in short time spans.
7 Platform Network
Created By: CondumbIsBlack
A non-conventional home, but an impressive feat nonetheless. Instead of having big indoor areas like most bases, this design looks to keep things open to the element with lots of huge platforms where players can put just about whatever they need.
The design being built over water is a common idea for a couple of reasons. Firstly, oceans are flat open spaces, which removes the need for clearing terrain, and secondly, it can double-up as a place to farm guardians for Prismarine, which is coincidentally what most of these water-bases are made out of.
6 Water Pyramid
Created By: Whistler
Despite what the name might suggest, this isn’t a base built on water. Instead, it is a base that houses water. A massive pyramid is a common idea for a mega-base, and there are plenty of amazing ones out there, but this one takes a slightly different approach.

This pyramid uses a tiered approach that players could reasonably build a city on if they wanted. Instead, this design houses water at most of the key points of the pyramid to add color to the design. Brilliantly, there’s still plenty of room underneath each pool of water to have living space, as well as all the space the interior could hold.
5 Big Sphere
Created By: GenericUser_Qwerty
Quite a futuristic design, as this massive sphere sticks out about the water, being held up by gigantic pillars both inside and out. Making the entire thing out of glass creates a beautiful visual effect whether players are inside or out of the sphere, and the possibilities of what can be done on the inside are endless.
Players can section off each floor to have dedicated spaces, or they can mix and match, creating a chaotically beautiful interior full of different platforms and staircases leading all around the sphere. For extra beauty points, this base is built on top of a coral reef, meaning the water below is lovely and colorful.
4 Island Castle
Created By: Andyisyoda
The recently released Caves & Cliffs update completely overhauled terrain generation, which has made for some fantastic building opportunities. While builders still use tools to manipulate the terrain to the whims of their creations, finding that perfect spot to build an island fortress is now much easier.
This design takes quite a large island and turns the entire thing into a gigantic castle, complete with a small town within the walls. There’s more to it than meets the eye, though, as the underside of the castle is hollowed out, so water can flow through it and more secrets and be discovered.
3 Ocean Mansion
Created By: DaxInvader
Why build a grand mansion on land when you can have one that floats? This design is something that wouldn’t seem out of place in the mightiest of ancient Greek or Roman cities, managing to look gorgeous whilst giving plenty of practical space inside and out.

The main building is fairly simple but works well with the design of everything around it, including the several extra buildings around the side. The central pillar looks great but also allows for plenty of interior space below the central building. It combines the dark Prismarine with the white quartz for a lovely style.
2 Sea Pillars
Created By: Vesko
This base is one of the more famous ones, as it was built not only in survival but in a hardcore world. The pillars that stick up out of the water are very striking, and positioning eight of them in a circle is quite impressive in a game about cubes.
The pillars are only part of the effect, though, as the hovering elements in the middle make for a great living space or farm as the user requires. It has a somewhat magical vibe to it as well, as the chains connected to the pillars hold it in place, almost like it’s sealing away some sort of ancient evil.
1 Space Valkyria 3
Created By: JackTheRippa
This base is perhaps the most amazing feat of them all. Not only was this made in survival mode, but it was built on the infamous 2b2t sever. 2b2t is Minecraft’s largest anarchy server, which means there are no rules and no moderation. Bases will be griefed as soon as they’re discovered, so to keep something this huge hidden for so long is incredible.
The base itself is a thing of beauty, fitting in the aesthetics of The End, where it was built, and has such a detailed interior where hoards of items can be stored, and many players can live. As is the way with 2b2t, the base was discovered and destroyed in 2019, but its incredible beauty was archived for the whole world to look back on before them.
Minecraftis available on Android, iOS, PC, PS5, PS4, Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
