Bendis, who created the character along with artist Sara Pichelli in 2011, said he was blown away seeing the superhero in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The character of Miles Morales was created with inspiration from an episode of the hit TV show Community, in which actor Donald Glover’s character Troy Barnes is seen in Spider-Man pajamas.

Since the character’s debut in 2011, Miles Morales has been in many forms of media including comics, movies and video games. Into the Spider-Verse, an animated film that prominently featured the character, was successful enough to warrant a sequel currently in development, and Sony is working with Into the Spider-Verse directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller on a live-action adaption of the Korean-American superhero Silk.

The latest trailer for the upcoming game was shown at Sony’s PlayStation 5 Showcase last week. Spider-Man: Miles Morales debuted a small portion of the game focusing on Miles’ unique abilities. While some familiar elements from Marvel’s Spider-Man were present, including over-the-top quick time events, Miles can also become invisible to sneak around, as well as use a Venom Blast attack that gives a bio-electric shock to enemies.

After the showcase, it was revealed in an update to the PlayStation Blog that Spider-Man: Miles Morales would join a few other PS5 games being made available on PS4 as well. The move is a substantial change in direction for Sony, with the company touting its exclusive games on next-gen hardware since the PlayStaton 5’s announcement as a major difference between Sony and Microsoft.

When released, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will take up 50GB of space, which is a big portion of the hard drive space for both the physical and digital editions of the upcoming Sony console. Both consoles will have 825 GB of space allocated to game installation and updates, which is not a huge jump compared to the 500GB of the original PS4 console. It’s worth noting that PlayStation 5 owners will be able to upgrade the basic hard drive space with larger expansion once options are made available.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales launches November 12 on PS4 and PS5.
