The Giants left fielder, obviously best known as the grandson of legendary Red Sox outfielder Carl Yastrzemski, hit his first MLB home run Friday, crushing a fastball from Orioles right hander Andrew Cashner.

For older fans, the call from the Giants broadcast booth was probably enough to evoke memories of Carl’s exploits from yesteryear: “Yastrzemski hits a high drive to right — it … is … out of here!”

The 28-year-old Yastrzemski, who got off to a slow start (4 for 18) since making his MLB debut May 25, had an RBI triple in the first inning Friday before homering one frame later.

How sweet it must be for that home run to come against the Orioles, the team that took him in the 14th round of the 2013 MLB Draft. But after bouncing around Baltimore’s minor-league system for six seasons, Yastrzemski was traded to the outfield-depleted Giants in March.

Yaz is making the most of his second chance. He hit 12 home runs with a 1.090 OPS in 40 games for Triple-A Sacramento before being called up to the Giants.

In case you’re wondering, Carl Yastrzemski, an 18-time All-Star, hit 452 career home runs.
