Mike Budenholzer will take over as team president after the Hawks reached a buyout agreement with former general manager Danny Ferry, Yahoo Sports first reported.

Budenholzer will be working with former assistant general manager Wes Wilcox, who has been promoted to general manager.
The Hawks’ new ownership group, led by Tony Ressler, cannot solidify the changes until the sale of the team becomes final on June 24 in New York. Reportedly, as soon as the sale is set in stone, the new contracts with Budenholzer and Wilcox will be finalized.
Ferry was placed on leave as general manager in September after a tape was released of him saying racially insensitive remarks. Bruce Levenson was also forced to sell the team after an internal investigation into a racist email reached the public.
Budenholzer led the Hawks to a 60-22 record and the Eastern Conference finals in his second year as Atlanta’s coach.
