The Nintendo 3DS version of Miitopia reviewed as an average RPG back in 2016 in Japan and in 2017 elsewhere. The Switch version of this over-the-top family-friendly RPG has updated visuals and brand new features, however, and one aspect of the game that Nintendo is highlighting in a new trailer is the game’s extremely in-depth Mii customization abilities.

The Mii customization trailer for the Switch version of Miitopia starts out simply showing off the standard creation of a Mii, which is something that fans should be familiar with since the Wii back in 2006. Things get much more detailed very quickly, however, as players can also add personality traits, signature war cries, jobs, and more.

Perhaps most exciting of all is the ability to completely overhaul a Mii with a character makeover. Thanks to the newly released demo, players have already been able to get extremely creative with Miitopia’s in-depth Mii-maker. With this, players can add makeup, wigs, and so much more. The end results are fans already recreating Steve from Minecraft, Luigi, Mr. Clean, etc.

During the heyday of the Nintendo Wii, fans would create countless Miis and share them with friends, post them online, or create “how-tos” for others to recreate. The amount of freedom allowed with Miitopia is tenfold, so the creativity and options seem endless. Players will also be able to share the Mii creations online with all other players, or with friends specifically via an access code.

For anyone who is interested in trying out the extremely detailed Mii creation tools in the game, the aforementioned Miitopia demo is available right now for free. The demo is a great way to test out the Mii features, but also the game itself. Miitopia is an RPG that is certainly not as deep as other games that share its genre, but the character creation tools may match any in gaming. It will be very interesting to see what fans come up with via the demo and the full game. Fans will certainly be sharing them online over the coming weeks and months, as the creativity has already been on display–and the demo has only been out for a couple of days.

Miitopia is set to launch for the Nintendo Switch on May 21.
