Nintendo bypassed the traditional press conference again this year in favor of an online-only showcase called the Nintendo Digital Event. One of the key focusses for the company this year, however, is the next installments in the fan-favorite Super Smash Bros. franchise. The Big N previously announced plans to let fans play the Wii U version at participating Best Buy locations, then it announced the Super Smash Bros. Invitational, and now it’s unveiled two new fighters that’ll be joining the fray.

As many fans have suspected, Nintendo’s customizable avatar character, the Mii, will be making a playable appearance in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. games. What’s important to note about the character is that almost every aspect of the character is customizable. There are three core options for players to select when editing their Mii’s fighting styles: Brawler, Sword Fighter, and Gunner. Best of all, the move sets of each character is customizable — allowing fans to build a move set based on a three different options for each standard attack.

Following that reveal was the confirmation of another newcomer from the Kid Icarus franchise. Palutena, a goddess better known for her kind demeanour and strong sense of good, will be joining the fray as a playable combatant. Her moves look as powerful as one would expect from a deity, and her move set looks rather diverse. Her petite frame doesn’t appear to give her much speed, however, as Paluntena appears to be a very heavy hitter.

Palutena was expected after an alleged leak outed her, but the character’s confirmation is still grand all the same. Nintendo plans on announcing even more content during the upcoming week, so there could very well be more character reveals in the coming hours or days. With that in mind, stay tuned to Game Rant for more details on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS as E3 continues.
