Revealed in October of last year, Honkai: Star Rail takes closer inspiration from MiHoYo’s original flagship franchise, Honkai Impact 3rd, sharing many of the same exploration elements from Genshin but with a more science-fiction-inspired setting. Star Rail, however, differs from its predecessors with a major shift in the game’s combat, trading off the real-time combat of Genshin and Honkai for a more traditional turn-based combat system. Now, MiHoYo’s newest announcement for the upcoming RPG officially reveals open signups for the game’s second closed beta test.

MiHoYo officially announced the second closed beta test for Honkai: Star Rail on Thursday with a survey for interested players to fill out asking for details like information on how often a player plays games throughout the week and their experience with similar games. MiHoYo also released a new trailer alongside the signups teasing elements of the game’s story as well as a variety of vibrant and gorgeous locales for players to explore. Interested players will be able to sign up for the beta through May 15th, after which invitations will be sent out to all players accepted for the test.

While the beta for MiHoYo’s newest game will likely attract many Genshin Impact fans to sign up for the testing, players should not expect to see heavy references to the successful RPG within Honkai: Star Rail. Star Rail’s sci-fi theming sees the game sticking much closer to Honkai Impact 3rd and the game even features several characters with extremely similar appearances to popular Honkai characters like Bronya and Himeko. MiHoYo is also running a community event on the game’s official Twitter with winners receiving access to the closed beta.

Honkai: Star Rail’s second closed beta test comes as MiHoYo recently has hit a snag with its most popular title. After heavy speculation surrounding potential delays, the Genshin Impact developer officially announced Genshin Impact’s Version 2.7 update would be delayed with many believing the uncharacteristic delay to be a result of recent COVID-19 lockdowns in Shanghai where the developer’s headquarters is located. While MiHoYo has not yet confirmed whether the delays would affect any of its other games, the developer’s passionate fans will soon get a chance to experience its newest adventure.

Honkai: Star Rail is in development for PC and mobile devices.
