Berchelt, a Mexico native, never left any doubt, improving his career record to 34-1. He first knocked Barros down with a right-left combination late in the second round. His second knockdown came 45 seconds into the third.
Referee Michael Griffin waved off the fight with 1:53 left in the third round after Barros got knocked down for the third time. The Argentinian’s career record dropped to 41-6-1.
Saturday marked Berchelt’s 30th career knockout and the third time he retained his title, the previous two coming against Japan’s Takashi Miura and Ghana’s Maxwell Awuku. His next mandatory defense will be announced at a later date.
