The lack of X-Men characters in Marvel’s Midnight Suns will sort of be rectified with the release of the Storm DLC. Her inclusion will give the X-Men a far greater presence, and it should not stop there. A world-ending threat like Lilith got the attention of The Avengers and The Midnight Suns, so it would only make sense that she would pique the X-Men’s interest. While Firaxis has not unveiled what the Storm DLC will contain, hopefully, the titular hero will make the X-Men matter in Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

The X-Men Are Largely Absent From Midnight Suns

Right now, Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Wolverine is the X-Men’s biggest representative. He appears when players encounter Sabretooth for the first time, and he later joins the Midnight Suns at the Abbey to assist with the larger fight. He will mention Charles Xavier and the X-Men, but the rest of the members do not tag along with him. He seems to join the fight of his own accord, and the rest of the X-Men seem to be missing entirely.

Wolverine is not the only character representing the X-Men as both Midnight Suns’ Magik and Wanda Maximoff play major roles in the story. Neither character is a member of the X-Men, but they both have strong ties to the X-Men story. Magik was a member of the X-Men before she joined the Midnight Suns, and she is the younger sister of Colossus in the comics. Wanda Maximoff also has major ties to the X-Men comics as she was one of the founding members of the Brotherhood of Mutants, and is sometimes portrayed as the daughter of Magneto. Neither character is involved with the X-Men in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, but they do help give that part of the Marvel universe a bit more of a presence.

Storm Could Make the X-Men Matter in Midnight Suns

Storm will be the second official member of the X-Men in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and hopefully, she will make the mutants more important. They are a large and varied team that would most likely want to stop Lilith from destroying the world, but Firaxis chose not to include them. Wolverine’s inclusion almost feels like he was shoo-horned in because of his popularity rather than as a means to bring the powerful team with him, but Storm could change that perception. It’s also worth mentioning that Storm’s role in the MCU’s X-Men could be reprised in the future, making the character more relevant.

The Storm DLC’s Storm spotlight may imply that the aim is to just add another hero to Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ roster, but it should do more than that. These DLCs are bringing a couple of new missions with them to introduce the characters, and those chapters have a chance to at least show players what the X-Men are up to. They are out there doing something that prevents them from helping fight Lilith, and Firaxis should shed some light on that.

The X-Men have a small presence in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, but their role should be much more relevant in the future to appease long-time fans. The Storm DLC is Firaxis’ chance to introduce more representation for the titular team, and a possible second wave of Midnight Suns DLC for Moon Knight or other heroes could do even more. Time will tell just what the pack includes, but hopefully, it helps make the X-Men an integral part of this corner of the Marvel universe.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions in development.
