As seen below in IGN’s gameplay walkthrough for Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Monolith Productions’ Vice President of Creative, Michael de Plater, introduces the video and starts things off by showing the player at an orc encampment, receiving intelligence by attacking enemies with stealth, and moving around around the city with more verticality than in the previous entry. As it happens, the urban environment of Minas Ithil shows how the game will allow for a more varied approach to combat.
As far as Middle-earth: Shadow of War’s Nemesis system is concerned, it is going to be more seamlessly integrated into the sequel’s story, as the Orc commander evidenced in the above gameplay walkthrough, for example, will be different for every player. Not to mention, Talion will have more allies this time around, with de Plater claiming that the protagonist will meet more people on his side as he fights alongside the Gondorian army.
Should the latest piece of gameplay footage for Middle-earth: Shadow of War not sate the hungry appetites of fans craving for more video for the forthcoming action-RPG, Monolith Productions, they can watch roughly 16 minutes of gameplay from a trailer released about a month ago. In it, there’s an even greater expansion upon the title’s Nemesis system.
Bearing all of this in mind, it looks like Middle-earth: Shadow of War is shaping up to be a much more refined and in-depth experience than its predecessor, and should satisfy plenty of Lord of the Rings fans the world over once it releases later this year. Of course, those who invest in Microsoft’s Project Scorpio console could be in for an even visual experience than others, as Middle-earth: Shadow of War’s technical director has hailed that the system is an impressive upgrade to the Xbox One, especially in terms of its 4K and HDR capabilities.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is set to launch on August 22, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
